Eisenach

Eisenach is a city in Thuringia, Germany which is situated between the northern foothills of the Thuringian Forest.

The main attraction of Eisenach

1. Wartburg Castle – It is a castle which is most visited popular tourist attraction and it was founded in 1067 by the count of Schauenburg.

2. Karlsplatz – The only city gate in town called us Church of St. Nicholas and the Nikolaitor.

3. Marktplatz – The market square with the Goergenkirche, the town hall, Baroque city castle, glided market fountain designed by Hans Leonardt in 1549 of St George.

4. Frauenplan – A small courtyard-type square which is called “Church of Our Lady” which was demolished for local defense strategies in 1306.

5. Stadtschloss – It is situated at the north end of the Market place which was built between 1742 and 1745. By today Stadtschloss is a venue for special exhibitions and as a museum for artistic and historical artifacts from Thuringia.

6. Rathaus or town hall – This town hall was destroyed by fire in 1636 and rebuilt in 1641 which is now used as the city administration offices and is connected to a savings banks.

7. Kreuznacher House and ducal residence – This building was built by the merchant Kreuznacher in 1539, featuring a tower with spiral stairs. Today the house holds the tourist office in Eisenach.

8. Luther House – It is one of the oldest and most picturesque half-timbered buildings remaining in Eisenach. People say that Martin Luther lived here. Right now, this house is a museum featuring multimedia exhibits relating to the period.

9. Bach House & Monument – The Bachhaus was the first museum world-wide dedicatd to the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach in 1907. This house is over 600 years old and today, the museum holds several artifacts and a variety of 18th and 19th century music instruments.
