Helambu is situated 75 km north of Kathmandu which is an area inhabited by Sherpas. The easiest starting trek for Helambu starts from Sundarijal. The second starting point for Helambu trekking can be also done from Malemchi Pul Bazaar.
The first village on the trekking route to Helambu is from the Tamang settlement of Mulkharka at 1800m. There are also a few small teashops in the trekking where trekkers can sit and enjoy a magnificent view of Kathmandu valley and watch planes taking off and coming from Tribhuwan Airport.
If trekkers start their walk bit early in the morning then they can see the morning life of villagers. Trekkers will enter the Shivapuri Watershed & Wildlife Reserve Area by paying a certain amount as an entry fee. Most of the Shivapuri ridge is a dense forest of pine, oak and rhododendron trees. The Mountain View from Chisopani is great but for the perfect view trekkers have to wake up early morning.
From Chisapani the trekking route will go to Gul Bhanjyang, Khutumsang, Panghu, Magen Goth and then to Tharepati. On the second day the trekking route will go from Tharepati to Malemchigaon and then Tarke Gyang, Sermathang and then finishing at Sundarijal.
The main attraction of Helambu trek will be Sherpa, Lama and Tamang society, monasteries, 510 species of flaura and fauna and not to forget view of Langatang Himalayan range.
