Jakar is the major trading centre of the Bumthang valley. Most of the hotels and services of the Bumthang valley lies here which is the main reason for tourist of Bumthang to make base in Jakar. The hills around Jakar are filled with monasteries dedicated to Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) who is said to have cured an ailing ruler and introduced Buddhism to the valley. A traffic circle and the 14th century Jakar Lakhang mark the centre of the town.
