Location
Laya is a large, remote region in the far north-west of the Gasa distrct. Approximately 800 people lives in this area are from a group called the Layap. Layaps have their own local dialect in addition to Dzongkha. Layaps mostly lead a pastoral life where, half of the family of each household spends life rearing yaks and sheep at the mountain top during summer and move with the herd towards their settlement in winter.
The Laya-Gasa trek and the Snowman treks pass through this village.
