Jili Dzong

Jili Dzong is a monastery at 3570 meter in Western Bhutan. Jili Dzong was the residence of Ngawang Chhogyel, the cousion of Lama Drukpa Kunley. The large lhakhang (temple) contains an impressive statue of Buddha Sakyamuni. It used to be in ruin state but now the walls of the lhakhang have been replastered and await new paintings. You might question yourself what kind of mischief the young monks must have committed to warrant banishment to such an isolated place.

Phajoding

Phajoding is a monastery at an altitude of 3650m and lies in the Western Bhutan. Phajoding is a large monastic complex with 10 lhakhangs and 15 monastic residences, many of them used for extended meditation retreats. It was founded in the 13th century by Togden Pajo, a yogi from Tibet, who was searching for a place for meditation.
