Seattle is the most populous city in the state of Washington in the northwestern part of the United States. It is also the most important economic centre of the north west. The area already inhabited some 4000 years ago, nowadays Seattle is a modern city and huge companies like Boeing and Microsoft have their headquarters and/or huge production facilities in the region.
Seattle is the birthplace of rock legend Jimi Hendrix. One the (tourist) attractions in the city is the Space Needle tower (184 meters high), build for the 1962 World's Fair and major landmark. It features a rotating restaurant and observation deck.
Seattle is relatively close to Cascade or Olympic Mountains which is a good area for hiking, skiing and kayaking.
