Siegen trekking information

Siegen is a city in Germany in the South of Westphalian. The nearest cities to Siegen are Hagen, Frankfurt am Main, Koblenz and Cologne. Siegen is spread over 115km2 and it lies 290m above the sea level. Pfannernberg at 499m is the bighest peak at Siegen and the lowest point of the city is 215m above the sea level.

Main attractions of Siegen are –

Beatles-Museum - This 27 m2 museum is the smallest public museum in the world which is devoted to the four Liverpudlian musicians. They have collection of 17,000 sounds media, souvenirs, film posters, autographs etc.

Buildings’ such as Oberes Schloss and Unteres Schloss is a worth seeing which was 80 percent destroyed in 2nd World War. In Oberes Schloss building you can see the portraits of members of the Houses of Nassau and Orange. The upper floor is decorated in 19th century style. A kitchen, bedroom and many pieces of furniture from Biedermeier can show you the life style of region in past days and Unteres Schloss is converted into a state authority building in where you can find the offices of North Rhine-Westphalia Building and Property Establishment, the State Environment Office, the Office for Occupational Health and Safety and the Attendorn Correctional Facility (Siegen Branch Facility).

Churches like Martinkirche of 11th century and Nikolaikirche is the city’s landmark. Marienkirche church was built by the Jesuits between 1702 and 1729 is also another attraction of the city.

Gasometer – Located in the southwest city core is a spherical gasholder which is now protected by law as a monument. It is the oldest spherical gasholder.
