In the province of Sulmona lies Parco Nazionale della Majella, one of the most important parks in Abruzzo, both for its considerable size, over 74000 hectares for both the historical importance. It is considered a kind of Olympus dell'Abruzzo.
The massive separates the valley from the hills and is exactly aligned from north to south and represents the group in Abruzzo Apennine nearest all'Adriatico. The park includes Mount Morrone, Porrara and Monti Pizzi.
