Dakshinkali trekking information

dakshinkaliDakshinkali temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Kali. It is one of the most popular places of worship in Kathmandu and also picnic spot also. Twice a week, Nepali people come here to satisfy the goddess. Sacrifice are always made to goddess and the creatures who have to be sacrificed should be uncastrated male animals. 
Saturday is the major day for the sacrifice but on Tuesday also you can see the process of sacrifice but during the Dasain festival in October the temple is literally awash with blood and the image of Kali is bathed in it. After the sacrifice of animals the meat can be brought home or cooked at the picnic spot. Non Hindus are not allowed in the compound where sacrifice they make the sacrifice for the Kali, but it is ok to take a pictures from outside. 
The path down to the temple is lined with tea stalls and few people selling marigold, flower and coconut for worshipping. You can reach Dakshinkali by bus from Shahid Gate or by a taxi or you can do the cycling which is very enjoyable but as well as exhausting two hours ride from Kathmandu.
