Phoksumdo Lake trekking information

The Phoksumdo Lake comes under Shey Phoksumdo National park which was established in 1981. The lake and trekking trail will be snow-bound from mid-November to mid-May. Trekkers can find snow-leopards and herds of blue-sheep in the northern restricted region of the park near Shey Gompa.

 
The trekking route to Phoksumdo Lake was difficult before but since the construction of a new trail up the Suli Gaad from its confluence with the Thulo Bheri. Phoksumdo Lake is dramatic and the region contains a tiny pocket of the unusual Bon-po culture.

Phoksumdo Lake comes under the National park and the park authority prohibited the use of firewood and that’s why trekkers need to carry Karosene with the food.

Trek to Phoksumdo Lake is only for three days but trekkers will access to Nepal's highest waterfall and clear water of Phoksumdo lake. During the trek, trekkers will reach to the height of 3730m.

Day 1 : Dunai to Chepka
Day 2 : Chepka to Renje
Day 3 : Renje to Phoksumdo Lake

The best time for Phoksumdo Lake trekking is from the month of May to October.
