Pampaneira is one of the three of popular and picturesque whitewashed villages (like its neighbours Bubión and Capileira) that hugs the steep slopes of the river gorge, the Barranco de Poqueira. Pampaneira is the lowest of the three Moorish villages, that lies at just over 1,000 meter.
On the main square you can find tourist information on the Alpujarras. It provides maps and has details of walks in the area, along with a wealth of activities in the Alpujarras, the Sierra Nevada and Granada province. These include guided walks, four-wheel drive excursions, horse treks, mountain bike tours and rock climbing.
There are several basic accommodation options in the village. Some have wonderful views.
Walking routes along the Poqueira valley are clearly marked with signposts and link the three villages.
Less than 2 km outside the village Pampaneira is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery named Osel Ling, which means "clear light". There are some spectacular views of the Sierra Nevada, the coast and Órgiva from its stupa.
