Ooty (Udagamandalam) trekking information

The official name of Ooty is Udhangamandalam. It is a city and the district capital of Tamil Nadu. It’s a popular hill station situated in the Nilgiri Hills. Because of the great location, Ooty attracts large number of tourists every year. The landscape is Ooty is consist of rolling hills and plateaus which is full of vegetation, tea gardens and eucalyptus.
The attractions of Ooty are:
Botanical Garden – It was established in 1848. This garden has mature species of Italian and Japanese sections. There is also a fossilized tree trunk which is said to be 20 million years old.
St Stephens church – It is the oldest church in Nilgiri. The wooden used in this church came from the palace of Tipu Sultan in Srirangapatnam and it were hauled the 120km by a team of elephants.
Tribal Research Garden – It is small but interesting museum which exhibits the homes of the various hill tribes.
Thread Garden - This is a must see site in Ooty, which consists of 150 species of flowers and plants from around the world. Each flower has been hand embroidered without using a needle. It took 12 years to complete the display.
